Meet the Founder of Sensory TheraPLAY Box

Hello and welcome! My name is Christina and I’m an occupational therapist living in New York with my husband and three children. I have experience working with children who are on the autism spectrum, have developmental delays or neurological differences. I’ve worked with children of various ages (early intervention through 5th grade) and also with the older adult population doing home health care.

Sensory TheraPLAY Box launched September of 2016 and we have been proudly sending out sensory boxes to our wonderful and amazing subscribers every month since then! 💛

How did it all start?

My inspiration for starting a sensory toy subscription service was seeing a large need for it in my field. I was frequently asked by the parents of my clients: “what toys and activities should I do with my child at home?” or “What toys are appropriate and therapeutic for my son?” I found myself frequently writing out lists of items that would be helpful for parents to purchase for use at home.

In addition, the idea also sparked from my husband gifting me a subscription box one year for Christmas. I fell in love with the subscription box concept and thought to myself, “why don’t I do something like this... but sensory related and geared for children?" That’s when Sensory TheraPLAY Box was born.

I am happy to say that I am now able to give families the tools they need to engage their child in fun sensory play while promoting the development of important sensory motor skills. The items I select are either:

1. Favorites in the “therapy world” that therapists use

2. “Tried and true” goodies that have had positive feedback from parents

3. Everyday toys that you would see in a toy-store that aren’t necessarily marketed towards special needs children, but that have developmental and sensory benefits.

4. And most importantly…the KIDS’ favorite toys! There are always those items that kids gravitate to or just love to play with.

Those are the types of things included in Sensory TheraPLAY Box! Also, throughout my career, I’ve gathered a few tips and tricks along the way and started the Sensory TheraPLAY Box Blog to share some insights and helpful information.
